Goal 1: Provide a safe home for pregnant and teen mothers.

City of Peace Rescue Shelter

Wounded Healers Foundation Kenya operates the City of Peace Rescue Shelter, a safe and loving home for young survivors of sexual violence under the age of 18. Many of the girls are pregnant or have young babies—most are children raising children—rescued from abusive environments or unsafe situations. The home provides safety, stability, and a caring community where healing can begin.

Each resident receives access to medical care, counseling, and emotional support throughout pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. The home also offers opportunities for continued education, life-skills training, and mentorship to help every young mother rebuild her life with dignity and confidence. Staff and volunteers walk alongside each girl daily, ensuring she is supported, seen, and cared for in every step of her journey.

Walking through the home, you might find young mothers feeding their babies in the dining area, others dancing and laughing, or staff leading group discussions and activities that strengthen trust and belonging. Sometimes you’ll see them practicing yoga together—a moment of calm that reconnects body and spirit. The environment is peaceful and nurturing, with moments of laughter and learning woven into each day.

This thriving environment has been made possible through deep collaboration between local leaders, social workers, health professionals, and community partners who believe in restoring dignity to every survivor. Many residents come from situations of extreme hardship or abuse, and most arrive with little more than courage and resilience. At the City of Peace, they find more than shelter—they find community, care, and a chance to begin again.

This vital work is sustained through the generous support of individual donors and friends in the United States who give through Wounded Healers International. Their partnership ensures that the doors of the City of Peace remain open—offering safety, hope, and new beginnings for every girl and child who arrives in need
