This approach encourages men and boys to demonstrate their role in preventing violence and supporting victims. We teach skills and reinforce positive norms about masculinity, gender, and violence, with the potential to spread these social norms through social networks.
Through the skill-based and social norm components, our program has helped men and boys reduce their risk for future perpetration.
We partner with community leaders and local administration officers like chiefs and elders to engage communities in order to encourage
open and free discussion and diverse opinions in the process of communal problem-solving around issues of GBV.
During the conversations, community leaders engaged in meaningful discussions on preventing violence against women and girls through the positive use of power, using flyers, posters, and brochures.
Through soccer, boys learn important life skills such as leadership, cooperation, and conflict resolution. They develop a sense of camaraderie with their teammates, which fosters empathy and understanding towards others, including women and girls.
Soccer programs help boys recognize the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect by promoting positive masculinity and challenging harmful stereotypes.
The programs also provide a platform for discussions about gender equality, consent, and healthy relationships. Coaches and mentors can serve as positive role models, guiding boys toward a more inclusive and compassionate worldview. By addressing the root causes of violence and promoting gender-equitable attitudes, soccer becomes a powerful tool for social change.
We collaborate closely with existing community groups and grassroots organizations to provide comprehensive training sessions. These sessions delve into critical topics aimed at fostering awareness, understanding, and actionable steps toward curbing violence against women and girls.
